We built the thing we kept wishing existed

What growth-stage companies need is integrated, senior leadership that can move at the speed of the problem.

There was a pattern we kept seeing across companies we worked in and companies we were adjacent to. A growth-stage startup gets real traction, raises a round, and suddenly finds itself needing serious go-to-market leadership — a head of marketing who can build a growth motion for a new customer profile from scratch, a brand lead who can shape the organization’s narrative and build authority, a technical lead who can build the product roadmap and connect it to business objectives. So the founders do what you're supposed to do: they start a search.

Three months later, they've spent a small fortune on recruiting fees, onboarded someone who looked great on paper, and are now watching the quarter slip by while the new executive "gets oriented." Or they bring in a consultant who produces a polished strategy deck — and then bills out the door, leaving the team to figure out execution alone. Or they promote someone internally who's great but not quite ready, and now carry the cost of decisions made without enough experience behind them or strategy above them.

These founders aren’t making bad hires. The problem is that the recruiting structures available to them weren't built for the speed at which they actually need to operate.

We started Cursive Lab because we kept living on both sides of this equation.

Between the three of us, we've built products from the ground up and grown technical teams, built category-defining brands and scaled marketing functions in rapidly changing markets, and shaped go-to-market strategy across startups from pre-product to post-IPO and no customers to thousands. We've been the operators inside growth-stage companies who couldn't get the resources fast enough. And we've been brought in as external advisors, sometimes frustrated by the gap between the advice we gave and the help a team actually needed to act on it.

What growth-stage companies need is integrated, senior leadership that can move at the speed of the problem: someone who's been in the room before, knows what good looks like, and can get to work on Monday.

Cursive Lab exists to give growth-stage companies that coherence. We come in as a unified leadership team, help you diagnose where in your organization we’re needed the most, and connect the work across other functions. We deliberately embed across brand, marketing, sales, product, and strategy at the same time, because that's how the problems actually show up.

The explosion in demand for flexible, fractional leadership is a direct reflection of a technical and market landscape rapidly shifting in myriad different ways. LinkedIn profiles listing fractional roles grew more than 5,000% between 2022 and early 2024.

Companies that bring in fractional executives report, on average, a 25% improvement in operational efficiency within the first six months — at 40 to 60 percent of the cost of a permanent hire.

The math isn't complicated. But the market still hasn't caught up in one important way: most fractional offerings are still siloed. A fractional CMO here, a fractional CRO there, each operating in their own lane.

That's not how growth actually works.

Sales without marketing is a team making calls into a void. Marketing without sales alignment is brand-building that never converts. Strategy without execution is a document. The organizations that win at this stage are the ones where these functions move together — where the narrative, the motion, and the market approach are coherent from the first touchpoint to the closed deal.

Fractional leadership done right looks like a team that can flex to meet a changing organizational landscape — whether it’s being driven by an internal product pivot, shifting regulatory forces, or by AI not-so-silently reinventing how work gets done — and can design the new processes needed to meet it.

We're not a staffing firm. We're not a traditional agency. We're not a consultancy that hands off a deck and flies home.

We're operators who've done it before, working together, embedded in your organization, for as long as it takes to make the difference.

If the pace of the problem you're solving has outrun the structures you have to solve it, we'd love to talk: hello@cursivelab.com
